watching our beautiful city burn...

The past few days have been a bleak and low point in the history of England. We have all had to watch our beautiful city of London be looted, attacked and burned. It all orginated from the killing of a notorious london gangster, who was shot by police when he attempted to shoot a police officer. In my honest opinion, he deserved to be shot. If he wasnt breaking the law & potentially about to commit murder he would still be alive.

The day after this happened violent protests began. However it is clear that thousands of people across the country are using this as an excuse to become anarchists. London is not being destrotyed because of a mans death, but because violent & ignorant thugs are seizing the opportunity to create mayhem. There is no sense behind it, people are attacking and destroying their own communities... simply because they can.

As always, the police are dealing with the brunt of this. The police never get enough credit in siuations. Each officer selflessly risks their life to protect innocent people... yet people still blame them. Both of my parents are metropoliton police officers & this morning i had to watch my mum leave to enter this chaos, which i promise you is terrifying!

If only people could unite as strongly for a positive cause. But no, as always, people are far more ready to cause devastation and anarchy. Some of the video clips i have seen are genuinley in-humane. These people do not deserve their human rights and should be stopped by any means necessary.

My thoughts & prayers are with all the innocent people in London at the moment. All of the scared elderly people, terrified children and brave police officers. The people involved in the riots are the minority & i hope each and every one of them are imprissoned / punished for their actions... even though that is highly unlikely.

PS - a big thank you to anyone who sent me support messages regarding my parents, over twitter. It means a lot!

Couldn't have said it better, I really hope everything gets sorted out soon and your parents are so brave. These people have no right whatsoever to ruin so many peoples lives.

Could not agree more! The police should be given far more credit and the thugs who are doing this should be ashamed. They are using this man's death as an excuse for anarchy. I hope it stops soon.

I'm never going to understand why these rioters think they are above the law. The police had every right to shoot at Mark Duggan, didn't it originate from the police beginning a stop and search? Which, I believe, is their job? I really can't believe what they have done to such a beautiful city and community :/ xx

the riots seem to be now spreading across the country, they seem to be starting in leeds - where i live..! it just shows how frustrated and angry society is at the moment due to unemployment, the recession, etc etc etc, and people are using any excuse they can to let their anger out and attack the government, even though they're hurting other citizens in the process. it's so horrible to watch, and your parents will be in my prayers, i hope they're ok, be sure to reassure them that most of us in society are still backing the police for all they do!

Your parents are truly incredible people, I hope they stay safe! <3
I've been watching the new reports all day and it honestly just makes me sick, these people don't understand how much hurt and damage they're causing not just in London but the whole of the UK.
The only good that's come out of this is these wonderful news stories of people banding together to help clean up after these riots, or to protect their communities. It's stories like these that restore some of my faith in humanity.
Sincerely hoping this all blows over soon xoxo

Completely respect your parents for what they are doing, so very brave they and all of the police are at this time. I just hope it is all sorted soon, the rioters are just going too far and there is no need for any of it. My thoughts are with you and your family. Stay safe xx

I actually cannot express enough love for this post, I live on Reeve's Corner and have only returned to my house today. I had a petrol bomb thrown in front of my tram and masked boys running outside my house whilst i couldn't get home but stand and watch my community destroyed. People like your parents are godsends to innocent people like myself and my family, they are a credit to this country :) x
